The city is where I found myself, the city is where I lost who I thought I was and I have no illusions that the city is where we can re-learn and unlearn everything there is to be found.
I moved from the country at an early age and I remember the first few days of living in Melbourne Australia I had to adjust to the smell. I was a Golden Child who had no idea of anything but the beaches and barbeques.
The greatest event that ever happened to me was to move out of the sticks and into the ‘BIG SMOKE’. People want to romanticize about training in the Himalayas or with some Master from Wudang but believe me these people are not as integrated as one would have imagined. The reality is that when you ask for some one of some technique to help you develope your awareness and well being then some thing will arrive into your world.
When you can find your peace in the middle of peak hour traffic in the city then with such a crystallized understanding you will be able to integrate you way of being any where you are in the world. Nature is a nice place to visit but the city is where you really have an opportunity to see how crystallized your being can become.
It's challenging to be able to keep your Well Being in the city, you will loose your way many times. But like a crystal being formed over thousands of years you will eventually come to find your self in amongst the craziest of environments. To be able to enjoy the luxuries of western life style and the luxuries of eastern inner peace then one has become capable of being a whole human being.
A human being who can enjoy wine and dance on the beach as well as knowing when the time to rest and meditate is truly a celebrating human. This to me is really what is missing. The east is dreaming of the west and the west is dreaming of the east. But with in the dream both can be realized and wholistically lived and experienced.
