I have worked with some of the biggest Yoga schools in the west and I feel that most current forms of yoga are a good start for the essential foundation and alignment of the chakras. But I had to search deep and long I spent about 3 years in my crystal cave to get to the roots of Yoga.
The most important element to keep in mind when looking for a style of Yoga is that this is a ancient system of alchemy, unifying our mind, body and emotional states of being. The physical practice is one element of the whole philosophy, and yet most schools are stuck there.
Most of the Yoga that I have experienced in the west is a better alternative to working out in the gym but it still doesn't have the core energetic understanding and a clear direction for the practitioner. I have met some of the most flexible people in the world and they have basically been torturing their bodies to look some thing like what their teacher looked like and the madness is passed on from generation to generation.
Be careful my experience of a true teacher is some one who doesn’t expect for you to be like him/her but rather they are sharing their knowledge from a compassionate heart that wants to see you to evolve your being.
The most important part of yoga is the whole encompassing aspect of mind, body and spirit. This is an ancient form of Well Being that is designed to stimulate the internal Chakras or gates to awaken the Kundalini - Life Force Energy with in the body, leading to the higher vibrational gates, which stimulate the Pineal Gland to reawaken the third eye.
Until I discovered Tao Yoga and the Pyramid Yoga Center in Thailand at best I was doing some very beautiful Yogic exercises that totally improved my whole body and posture. But as I looked and researched deeper into the science behind this ancient art of transformation I realized that all three aspects of Well Being needed to be considered.
This whole system of well being is not dependant on any form but rather a core philosophy, now days I encompass the whole Mind, Body and spiritual states of being into my daily routine and I love it. There is no sense of perfecting a form but rather I am just reminding myself that I am a powerful co-creative being.
